Quick Hits:

Quarterback Jax Sternberger completed 17 of 24 passes for 318 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-12 win over Bridge Creek on September 25th.

The Yellowjackets have been to the playoffs 21 straight seasons, the longest active streak in Class 3A. Kingfisher has advanced out of the first round in 19 of those 21 seasons.

OFFENSE

With a relatively young team for the upcoming season, the Yellowjackets are still confident they have enough pieces to be competitive with anybody. “We will be younger than normal with only four returning seniors, but we will still be very competitive with some key players returning in our quarterback, Jax, and some defensive players at linebacker, Slade and Alan, and defensive end, Harrison,” head coach Jeff Myers said. Jax Sternberger (6-0, 185, Jr.) will line up at quarterback for Kingfisher, and is expected to be even more productive than he has been in the past. “(Jax) Got better as the year went on with decision making and making the right play. Has gotten stronger in the offseason and taller as well,” Myers said. In order for Sternberger to lead the Yellowjacket offense, a good offensive line is needed, and they have just that. Grayson Bromlow (6-0, 225, Sr.), Omar Ramos (5-10, 215, Sr.), Noah Friesen (5-10, 225, Jr.), and Wrigley Kennedy (6-2, 235, Jr.) all return to the Kingfisher offensive line after all proving themselves in previous seasons. Even though other positions are young for the Yellowjackets, the offensive line brings experience. Harrison Evans (6-2, 215, Jr.) will line up primarily at the tight end position, and also look to run some halfback. Expect Evans to get more touches this season. The Yellowjackets will run multiple formations, trying to get the ball to their playmakers in open space.

DEFENSE

The Kingfisher defense is where most might have questions, but coach Myers is confident in his three returning starters. Evans will line up at the defensive end position, a position he started at last year. Slade Snodgrass (6-1, 195, Sr.) and Alan Munoz (5-11, 185, Sr.) bring experience to the Yellowjacket defense and will both line up at the linebacker positions. Snodgrass is known for his hard work and dedication by coach Myers. “Slade is always the hardest worker in the room or conditioning himself to be in shape. Always pushes those around him to make them better as well,” coach Myers said. Expect to see a 4-3 formation and a very fast and physical defense.
