Hi, what are you looking for?

Woodward

Q&A with Woodward’s Avery Case – Presented by Randy’s Pharmacy

VYPE: What goals do you have for this year?
Avery: I would really like to make it to state as a team this year. Woodward has never brought a girls team to state and I think it would be an incredible experience.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Avery: Cross country has taught me to never quit. Even when it hurts, even when you feel like you can’t do it anymore, keep going.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Avery: I would have to say Sonya Covalt, my eighth grade English teacher. She has always been there for me and is a huge mentor. She’s also a fantastic teacher, of course, but her mentorship has and will continue to leave a lasting impact on my life.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Avery: Without a doubt, Khloe Clemence. She’s one of my best friends and also a fellow teammate. She’s probably the most athletic person I know and her love for Jesus is admirable. I’ve watched her face adversity many times, and she never uses it as an excuse. I try to emulate her habits and mindset in my daily endeavors.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Avery: Brynn Custar has left a lasting impression on me. She’s the big sister I never had. She pushes me to do my best and I do the same to her. I can always count on her for advice and street smarts, and we never fail to make each other laugh.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Avery: My favorite part about being on a team is how close we all are. We’re like a family. Regardless of how fast you are, how old you are, who you are, or where you come from, you’re a member of the family. We can be serious and work hard at practice, but we also love to joke around with each other. They are the biggest support system I have.

VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete? Explain.
Avery: It would have to be my mom. She was a really good basketball player in high school, and even earned All-State honors.

VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?
Avery: Probably soccer. I played when I was little and really enjoyed it. However, nothing compares to my love for cross country and track. There’s a reason why I don’t do anything else. Running is definitely my favorite.

VYPE: What profession would you like to work in?
Avery: I’ve considered a lot of professions over the years, but right now I’m thinking about pursuing a career in aviation.
