Woodward Cross Country Charcter Counts – Angel Nava – Presented by the Wise Agency

Angel Nava is a junior at Woodward High School and competes on the cross country team. Nava joined cross country last year and was initially inspired to join because his brother runs too and wanted to share in the experience. Although this is only his second year to compete, Nava said that he is enjoying the experience, and has already learned a lot about the sport and what is required to be successful.

“You just have to be disciplined, “Nava said. “Workout whenever it’s time.”

Aside from his brother’s influence, Nava also said that his cousin has been a positive influence in his life and contributed to him wanting to begin competing in cross country.

“My cousin played football in Mexico,” Nava said. “I wanted to be just like him.”

Nava said that this year has gone well for himself and the Boomers in competition. As the season begins to draw to a close Nava said that there is still work to be done.

“So far it’s been good for both the boys and girls,” Nava said. “But we still have work to do.”

Nava also had some words of advice for any underclassmen or other students who might be interested in joining cross country in the future. While Nava encourages others to be active in athletics, he suggests that students should follow whatever activity or interest they are most passionate about, rather than joining an activity or sport simply because their friends are participants.

“Do what you enjoy the most,” Nava said. “But don’t lose time doing it just because you have friends in it.”

Outside of athletics, Nava maintains great grades, and in the classroom takes his studies seriously.

“My favorite subject by far is history,” Nava said. “I love to learn how we got to this point in life.”

While only a junior, Nava has already been planning for his life after high school.

“My plan is to go to High Plains Technology Center for wind tech or auto mechanics,” Nava said. “After that I would like to go into the National Guard!”
