Woodward

Woodward’s Carter Reid – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by AAA -The Wise Agency Inc.

When a high school athlete competes in their sport, they are doing more than just playing a game. They are also serving as an example of their school and community. Carter Reid strives to do his best when he is competing for that reason.
“I appreciate that I am representing my school and community and it is an honor,” he said. “But more importantly to me, I am representing my family and Jesus. So when I am on the court that is what I try to remember.”

Reid is a junior at Woodward High School, where he is a member of the basketball and soccer teams. He is also a member of the Woodward National Honor Society and involved at his church, Lincoln Avenue.

While work is an important aspect of Carter’s preparation, he says that his teammates also play a big role in that too.

“In order to be successful, I have to be intentional throughout workouts especially in the offseason, shooting anytime I can get into the gym, and lots of hard work,” he said. “I have some great teammates. I enjoyed working against Caleb Luthi the most in practice because he was the most competitive and pushed me the most. The least appreciated player on the team is either Connor Price or Ace Long. Connor is the best point guard I have ever played with and passes the ball great. Ace Long is under-appreciated because he could’ve not played basketball and just prepared to win state in powerlifting but he comes to basketball to help me and other friends.”

Something else that Reid attributes his success to is his family and the impact that they have made on his life.

“My role model is my dad because he shows me what it means to be a leader,” he said. “And my biggest influence is my older brother Caden because he shows me what it means to be a hard worker. I have four brothers and three of them play basketball along with my dad so we have had many games in the driveway to practice. I barely played during my seventh grade year and was going to quit, but my parents convinced me to stick with it and I began to really enjoy it.”
