Cherokee’s Kynlee Kolb – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Gateway First Bank

There is a lot of things that go into being a successful athlete. The amount of work and dedication that you are willing to put in will determine your level of success. Kynlee Kolb says that there a few different reasons for her success.

“I feel like being self-driven and putting in the extra time has definitely paid off,” she said. “I think rodeoing and working on the farm have contributed to my success.”

Kolb is a sophomore at Cherokee High School, where she is a multi-sport athlete. She plays first base on the softball team, while she throws shot put and discus as a member of the track team. Along with her sports, she is also heavily involved in the Future Farmers of America club.

“I have learned a lot as a member of the FFA,” Kolb said. “It has taught me to be very self-motivated and responsible. Your outcome is exactly what you put into each project.”

Throughout her life, Kynlee says that she has had a lot of great influences that have helped her become who she is today.

“My parents and Mr. and Mrs. Wilber have been huge role models for me,” she said. “They have taught me that you have to set goals in order to achieve them. These are some of the hardest working people I know, and they never quit. Also, Grant Wilber has helped me throughout my FFA career. He instilled so many important everyday life lessons and skills. Another person would be Cheyenne Gaff, who has taught me to never give up and to set the bar high. She helped me to learn that you must work hard to achieve whatever it is that you want.”

There is another person that has made an impact on Kolb’s life and that would be her Computer Science teacher, Mrs. Gayla Failes.

“If you know Mrs. Fails, you know how strong her work ethic is,” she stated. “She truly cares for her students and makes so many sacrifices for them!  By watching her actions in and out of school I have learned so much.”

Kolb says that her favorite memory as an athlete would be winning the state championship in shot put.
