Alva’s Jarin Shirley – NW Tech spotlight – presented by Northwest technology center

Jarin Shirley is everything you want in a high school student-athlete. The junior is very involved in school activities, her academics always take priority, and she is a leader on and off the field of play. Shirley also attends classes at Northwest Technology Center in Alva, Oklahoma. As a student at Northwest Tech, Shirley is enrolled in the BioMedical Sciences program, which is a field she wanted to learn more about after working as an athletic trainer for the Goldbugs football team.

“I chose to attend classes at Northwest Tech in BioMedical Sciences because I knew it was a fun program and I wanted to learn more about opportunities in the medical field,” said Shirley.

Not only does Shirley take classes at Northwest Tech, she is also a member of the Superintendents Leadership Class (SLC) at Northwest Tech.

“I have enjoyed being in the SLC program and meeting new people. I have also enjoyed doing labs in the BioMed class,” said Shirley.

Shirley is a member of the varsity golf team, serves as junior class Vice President, is the Alva FFA chapter secretary, a member of the student council, Key Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Alva High School.

Shirley is making plans for her future which will include attending college at a major university.

“After high school I plan to attend a four-year university to receive my undergraduate degree then pursue a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine,” said Shirley.

For anyone looking into Northwest Tech, Shirley offers this advice; “Be active and involved. The year goes by fast so make the most of it.”

Away from the books, labs and sports Shirley enjoys spending time outdoors and taking care of some special animals.

“I enjoy hunting, fishing, golfing, spending time with friends, and taking care of my cows,” said Shirley.
