Throughout the span of an athlete’s career, no matter how long or short the career is, there are people that can impact and play an important role in the athlete’s life. Syon Rey says that he has had a number of different people that have played a role in his life, but he acknowledges that there are a few that have made a bigger impact. 

“My dad is one of my biggest role models,” he said. “He got me into soccer when I was younger, and I fell in love with the game. My coaches over the years have also been important for me and my development as a player.”

Syon is a senior at Alva High School where he is a dual-sport athlete. He is a center midfielder and a striker on the school’s soccer team and is also a member of the track team. 

Alva boys’ soccer coach Jacob Gould says that the team is looking for Rey to have a big season this upcoming year.

“Syon was our leading scorer and creator last year,” the coach said. “We will be looking for him to have an even bigger impact this upcoming season.”

Another person that has played a role in Syon’s life would be his favorite teacher. 

“I learned a lot from Mrs. Simon,” he said. “She taught me how important it is to pay attention to detail and to be the best that I can be.”

As a member of a team, Rey says that it is important that each member of the team be prepared and ready in order for the group to have success.

“Talent is important,” he said. “But more importantly, the chemistry on the team and its members is much more important.”

Along with sports, Syon is also a member of the Spanish Club at Alva.
